Alicia L. Ash "I Dropped 142 lbs in a Year and Lost 220 lbs in a Day." as seen on the Mo'Nique Show | Seeing is Believing

Seeing is Believing BookBuzz -- Alicia L. Ash is the author of the motivational book, "I Dropped 142 lbs in a Year and Lost 220 lbs in a Day."

Prior to her journey of healthy living, Alicia suffered three strokes in a years' time frame, as well as bouts of depression and spousal abuse, albeit mental. It was after one of her strokes when doctors informed her that she was borderline Diabetic and that a drastic change in her eating habits and lifestyle were imperative to her continuing to live. It was after hearing that dreadful report that Alicia was motivated by the fear of not being able to see her children grow up that she changed her life forever. She would go on to change her diet to a strict regiment as well as add exercising daily to her daily lifestyle.

The book chronicles Alicia's experiences during the time period of being her heaviest to losing the weight, both the good and bad. Like the fact that her husband of 15 years left her after she lost all of the weight, because he felt he was no longer physically attracted to her. She says that was probably the hardest thing to deal with emotionally, because she never envisioned losing her husband as a part of the pitfalls of losing all the weight.

Beauty Supply Boycott November 16th - 22nd | Seeing is Believing | Spread the Buzz

Seeing is Believing -- Professor Devin Robinson, an economics professor at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA and best-selling author of Taking it Back: How to Become a Successful Black Beauty Supply Store Owner, will lead a one week long boycott against Non- Black Owned Beauty Supply stores.

Robinson stated, "Blacks make up 96% of the consumers of these stores, yet represent less than 5% of the retail ownership." As a previous owner of 3 locations, Robinson understands the industry inside out and offers comprehensive solutions for Blacks to recapture this industry. "The problem is with the distributors. Distributors are mainly Non-Blacks and they handpick who they will distribute products to. This oftentimes leaves aspiring black owners disenfranchised", said Robinson.

The national boycott will take place from November 16th - 22nd and will be highly supported by some of the country's top Black Media. Robinson, who founded Taking it Back University (www.takingitbackblack.com), has been featured in Ebony Magazine for his work surrounding this issue and over the years has been working closely with his friend, syndicated radio host, Michael Baisden to keep the awareness high.

Cold? $27 Million Available to Help Idahoans Pay for Home Heat This Winter

A sour economy coupled with high home heating bills could make for a harsh winter for families across Idaho -- but help is available for many. $27 million through Idaho's Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will lend a helping hand and AARP is urging residents to apply for the relief now, before the money runs out.

According to an AARP survey, 44% of middle-aged and older Americans have found it more difficult to pay for basic utilities since the start of the economic recession. Older individuals tend to be hit especially hard by home heating costs in the winter -- while people over 65 spend about 30% of their household income on health care costs, they tend to spend about 20% on utility costs.

To learn more about LIHEAP eligibility and where to apply, visit www.aarp.org/ID or call the Community Action Partnership at (877) 375-7382.
