Posted: 02 Nov 2009 10:16 AM PST
Seeing is Believing - President Barack Obama said Monday the public and private sectors must find more ways to create jobs to continue the nation's climb out of an economic recession.
Obama said the economy has pulled back "from the brink" but still has a long way to go, especially in creating jobs. The president said job losses would continue for weeks and months to come and called for bold, innovative action by his administration, Congress and the private sector to create more good-paying jobs.
Obama made the remarks at the start of a White House meeting in the Roosevelt Room with economic advisers. The session was open to reporters and streamed live on the White House Web site.

Online Job Demand Down 83,200 in October, The Conference Board Reports
Posted: 02 Nov 2009 09:36 AM PST
Online advertised vacancies declined by 83,200 to 3,280,000 in October, according to The Conference Board Help-Wanted OnLine Data Series (HWOL)(TM) released today.
Online labor demand has been relatively flat since the low point in April 2009, increasing a modest 117,000, or slightly less than 20,000/month. The October decline reflected dips in labor demand across much of the nation.
"The September and October numbers are a further indication that, thus far, the recovery is weak," said Gad Levanon, Senior Economist at The Conference Board. "Labor demand is a leading indicator of employment, and the numbers indicate that employment is not likely to rise for the rest of this year." While there are fewer layoffs and some states, like Maryland and New York, have a modestly upward trend, overall the labor market remains quite anemic. "The gap between the number of unemployed and the number of advertised vacancies is about 11.8 million, with 4.5 unemployed for every online advertised vacancy," said Levanon.
Regional and State Highlights
New York and New Jersey both show a modest upward trend in job demand
In the South, job trend is positive in Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia
Trend in job demand is basically flat in the largest states in the West

A warship built with steel salvaged from the World Trade Center has arrived in New York City.
The USS New York sailed up the Hudson River to near Ground Zero, where it fired a 21-gun salute in tribute to those killed in the 2001 attacks.
It was watched by relatives of 9/11 victims, along with members of the emergency services and the public.
The US Navy is to hold an official commissioning ceremony for the new warship on Saturday.
The New York set off on its maiden voyage from Louisiana, where it was built, nearly three weeks ago.

BlackTalkers.com Launched - Dedicated to covering black talk media
Posted: 02 Nov 2009 04:35 AM PST
Seeing Is Believing - Launched Nov. 2, 2009, Black Talkers.com will cover the black talk media industry.
The site covers nearly 30 Black Talk formatted radio stations, with its media directory; hundreds of TV and radio talk show hosts with its pair of media Talented 10 lists; and black talk media industry events with its front page section.
Black Talkers Founder Robert "Rob" Redding Jr. says he started the Web site after realizing more than 20 percent of people who listen to talk radio are black.
"And that tally does not include Black Talk formatted radio stations," Redding said. "Black talkers and their listeners are the most neglected in talk radio today and BlackTalkers.com fills that need."
